What makes a trip unforgettable
and how we measure it
Every trip creates a different experience.
Some are enjoyable—but quickly fade. Others bring people closer—and stay with you for years.
We think about every trip in two ways:
How much meaningful time you spend together
(measured by our Connection Quotient)
How deeply the experience resonates – and how long it stays with you
(measured by our Meaning Meter)
A beautiful hotel might be a five-star stay—but only a 5 or 6 for connection and meaning.
How we measure it
Behind every recommendation is a detailed evaluation. We look at how the experience will unfold – beyond where you go or stay. And we evaluate every detail that shapes how the trip will feel.
Connection Quotient: How easily time together happens
Connection isn’t just about being in the same place. It’s about what the space allows you to do once you’re there.
The Connection Quotient (CQ) is based on how much it enables shared time—without effort. Each feature either increases or limits how easily people come together. For example:
- A private pool where no one else is around—no crowds, no schedule, no saving chairs → scores higher than a hotel pool shared with hundreds of guests.
- A kitchen that’s always open —where you can eat what you want, when you want, and people naturally gather throughout the day → scores higher than a scheduled breakfast buffet.
- Shared living spaces, outdoor terraces, game rooms, gardens—places where people naturally spend time together—all contribute to a higher score.
What lowers the score:
- Separate hotel rooms that limit time together.
- Time dictated by outside schedules – pool hours, set mealtimes, reservations required.
- Shared spaces with other guests.
- Having to coordinate every moment just to be together.
Meaning Meter: What stays with you afterward
Meaning isn’t about what you check off a list. It’s about what you feel. And what you remember later.
How it’s measured
We score the experience based on how likely it is to create moments that stick. For example:
- A crowded group tour you barely remember → scores lower than a museum opened just for your group.
- Dinner in a noisy restaurant where you have to shout to be heard → scores lower than dinner in your own space, everyone around the same table, where conversation flows easily.
- A place that looks like everywhere else → scores lower than one that feels distinct the moment you arrive.
What lowers the score:
- Touristy experiences.
- Rushed timelines.
- Crowds and noise.
- Moments that feel pre-packaged.
A real example: how a trip gets scored
Here’s how Connection Quotient and Meaning Meter come to life in a real setting.
7-bedroom private villa in Tuscany
- Sleeps 12–14
- Panoramic countryside views
- Private pool, outdoor dining
- Full kitchen, garden
Overall Scores
Connection Quotient Breakdown
Other amenities boosting the score:
- Lush private garden for peaceful tranquility
- Home theater for movie nights
- Quite library for reading & contemplation
What slightly limits the score:
- Large property footprint
- Bedrooms spread across two wings
CQ Summary
Why it scores high: Time together happens naturally throughout the day.
Meaning Meter Breakdown
What slightly limits the score:
- Popular region
- Some experiences require careful planning to avoid crowds.
MM Summary
Why it scores high: The experience feels personal, memorable, and hard to replicate.
Same destination.
Two completely different experiences.
Hotel Stay
What it feels like:
- Separate rooms on different floors
- Shared pool, limited seating
- Restricted dining times
- Time together requires constant coordination
Private Villa Experience
What it feels like:
- Your own private cocoon with your favorite people
- Space to relax, unwind, and be together
- Private pool, always open
- Kitchen and dining on your schedule
What makes the difference
Time together happens naturally.
The setting supports it.
The experience feels personal.
A hotel property might be beautiful—but time together is more fragmented, and the experience less tailored to your group.
Same place. Different possibilities.
The difference isn’t where you go. It’s what’s possible once you’re there.
